The Characters

Macbeth

Macbeth is the main charcter and is King Duncan's loyal general. He is said to be a brave and strong general, but is then tricked into betraying and murdering his king. In a way, Macbeth is a character just used to do other's biddings. You can see this through the wiches' tricks on him, and his wives persuastion for him to murder Duncan. Once he sits upon the throne he is never happy, and is seen as a tyrrant. For this reason, his kingdom rebelled against him. During the revolution, he was killed by his enemy, Macduff.

Lady Macbeth

Lady Macbeth is Macbeth's wife, and is just as evil, if not more evil, than Macbeth himself. She is the person who really encourages Macbeth to sin and lie. She also steps up to take Macbeth's place several times, examples of this are when Macbeth is whimpering about Duncan's murder, she steps up and finnishes the plan. She also steps up when Macbeth is going insane when he sees the ghost of Banquo. Unlike Macbeth, however, she holds a huge amount of guilt on her back, and is seen in the night sleep walking, while trying to get "invisible blood" off her hands. She eventually goes insane and kills herself.

Macduff

In many ways the character Macduff, is the same as Macbeth. One way they are similiar is that they are both high ranking general and lords. Macduff, however, takes sides against Macbeth and knows from the start of Macbeth's reign that he actually did murder the king. When Macbeth kills his family, Macduff leaves Scotland to help Malcom form an army. At the end, when he and Macbeth fight, they are both even similiar, they have no family left. Macduff is also "the man not born of a woman", so he was always ment to kill Macbeth.

Banquo

Like Macbeth and Macduff, Banquo is also a general for King Duncan. Unlike Macbeth, the witches told him that he would never be king, but his descendents would be king. Because of this prediction, Macbeth kills Banquo, and tries to kill Banquo's son. The men fail to kill his son, Fleance. Later at Macbeth's party, the Ghost of Banquo haunts Macbeth and sits in his chair. No one but Macbeth is able to see Banquo, which is why many citizens think he is insane. It is interesting that Banquo hants Macbeth, instead of King Duncan, whom Macbeth murdered himself. This is most likely because Macbeth seems more evil killing Banquo, because he is his best friend.
